long term fly line storage
#4
First off, you know me, I don't save old line.....I would have way too much hanging around and usually if I replace line it is an UP grade so I don't need the old stuff. If it is a good line, but I just want to try something different , then I give the old line to either Poky or some other friend that is into the sport but can't afford to stay on top. NO MAC I don't have any line at the moment LOL, The line I have been buying lately is to put on new reels I have just bought.

Now as far as this line you want to save. Make sure it is clean, a good line dressing (GLIDE for one). Find a book about 5" or 6" wide (thin book will work) Wrap the line around the book WIDTH loose enough you can slide it off. Make sure to tag it somehow with leader end and backing end, this is a must with Weight Forward Line, Double taper won't mater. This way you will know after a long period of time, which end to put on reel first.
Once you got it all in a loop, use some pipe cleaners or bread wire wrappers. Two should work. Put it in a paper towel and put it in a plastic bag. Store someplace cool.
