My advise for Utah Lake is to use Carp meat, but also is White Bass; its legal at Utah Lake for bait as well as the Jordan River. Also White Bass may be easier to catch than Carp.

When I use to fish Utah Lake when I was younger I always caught Bullheads(also known as Mudcats) when I used worms.

So for that reason try to catch a White Bass.

I would also learn to use a throw net, they are legal in Utah as long as they are no more than 5 feet in diameter. I love throw nets but learning can be difficult.

If you have a really hard time trying to catch a White Bass this is what I do and often works.

Take a preserved minnow, like one from a jar, a really stiff minnow. Uncle Josh online has really small ones or use medium-sized work even better. What you do is take a small minnow and take it from that jar, then put it on a hook and let it spin! yes thats right, just let it spin like a spinner, it can get finicky White Bass to strike, trust me. Just put it on so it spins. I'll post this year showing what I do to get finicky White Bass to bite, I'll show pics for proof.
