I haven't fished with a sculpin for years, but when I did, it was in the impoundments on the Logan river.
At the time, there was a hook called a sculpin hook, it was a two side by side hook arrangement, with a safety pin portion where the sculpin could be threaded on.
They were very good bait for large browns, but not very exciting fishing. cast them out, and wait for a long soak, until a fish found the bait.
Have tried only sculpin flies on moving water.
