[quote N.E.T.O.]"IMNSHO - Randy, if you happen to hook a fish of a life-time at Strawberry or somewhere else you have a good chance of having it break off before you can loosen the drag quickly enough. It is Ok for the drag to slip some while sitting the hook, just not Ok if it is so loose that it spins freely. At least that is the way that I see it. "
True! The drags are all worn on my reels so "locked down" for me still allows some drag. If I buy a new reel, I will need to "loosen it up just a bit". Curiously, my favorite reel, is my el-cheapo $20.00 reel I bought from K-mart one day. It is a Mitchell Avocet and the rubber handle is nearly worn down to nothing. When the drag is locked down tight on it, it still allows some drag. I just ordered a brand new one from Bass Pro ($29.00, Avocet II) and am anxious to see if it comes that way from the factory! The drag is even worse on my nice Shimano Stradic! It's worn so bad that I can't even use it when fishing for Wipers!
