The New Hatchury
#21
Right now, I can't think of a water that needs bass to be planted in !! Some of the dams that are being refurbished in the Southern part of the state will require planting after they work is done and they refill. Biggest need now are the Municipal Fisheries, Yuba, and similar waters. They are not bass waters and have special needs, which I believe DWR is addressing. Tiger Musky are a priority as they are the primary control on waters that have to many panfish ( perch, blue gill, etc). Another priority is forage. We have all these predators and nothing for them to each but each other. So with all due respect to those that want to see more Bass planted, until we build more dams and create more water, there aren't to many spots that are suitable.

In perspective, 30 years ago we had Deer Creek w/ LMB, Flaming Gorge/SMB, Lake Powell/LMB, Gunlock/LMB, Pineview/LMB, and some small lakes in the basin with LMB.

Today we have Hyrum, Mantua, Willard, numerous small community fishery ponds, Deer Creek/ LMB & SMB, Jordanelle/SMB, Rockport/SMB, Echo/SMB, East Canyon/SMB,Starvation/ SMB, numerous waters in the Basin with SMB& LMB, Minersville/SMB, Enterprise/SMB, Quail Creek/LMB, Sand Hollow/LMB, Gunlock/LMB, and I am sure that there are lots that I have left off. All of this has been through the efforts of the DWR. Biologists have stuck their necks out to accomadate the warmwater fisherman and have given us numerous new waters. they have not had the resources, men, money, and support in the past. We now have a new hatchery, a Warmwater Biologist, a Community Fishery coordinator, and even some support from the most high mucky mucks. We have come a long way gentleman, we have a ways to go, but I would much rather be where we are today than where we were 30 years ago. Lighten up !!!!!
