Using the logic if I kill a small buck and it is getting dark so I start to hike out then on the way out I see a much bigger one that I want kill in the morning along the mountain. I pray a mt. lion will get the smaller buck I killed (and lets assume it did) then boom I get a nicer buck. I don't think this is right but if you do then good on ya but I always thought and learned early on that you must tag the animal even before you start to gut it.

that the GW doesn't know the law. I can only assume he is a close friend and if you went randomly to any other GW I bet he would give you different information.
And yes I am judging you based on your story and what you did. But each of us have our own opinion on this matter. I'll probably get slack for this but it just doesn't seem or feel right to have done this.
