Thanks to all for chiming in on this one. The story about the Kamloops trout was particularly interesting. Perhaps the hard-fighting fish with the red slash on their jaws (and often reddish fins) that I have been catching on the Green are just wild bows instead of hatchery ones. The typical bows that I catch there do not have the red slash or the fighting ability. It's literally night and day when I hook one. I have posted pictures of an expample of each.

None of the rainbows that I have caught in Michigan exhibit the red slash. Perhaps it is environmental (water temp, pH, something) rather than genetic. Very interesting discussion. Thanks again for all of the posts.

Maybe I should start a thread about browns. I am always puzzled by the different coloration, even out of the same body of water. The browns in the Au Sable River in Michigan in particular have a very unique look.
