I've got both the FL8 and the Marcum 5 - both work fine, tho the zoom feature on the 5 is very nice for bottom perchies (Vexilar also has better units than I have that also have zoom). IMO, zoom is worth the extra bucks so that's why I bought the Marcum after owning the FL8. Either way, flashers put the fish at a serious diSadvantage! I think KJ's explanation of fishing strategy is excellent and is basically the one I use after perusing a lot of the BFT posts - very helpful.
