Tons of Kokanee at Ririe-Presidents Day Report
#3
I had decided to get away from the mass of people by the island even before leaving home. I saw someone with a limit as I was heading down the ramp about 8:45am. It was very slow for an hour then I caught a single [#000000]kokanee [/#000000]and it was the only thing on the graph other than my jig. A little while latter a trout. I could hear your cousin about his [#000000]crayfish[/#000000] catch. Sounded like they had a good time. Then caught two more [#000000]kokanee[/#000000] and lost several others as the schools moved through. I tried some holes a couple of hundred yards away to check the depth then [#000000]jigged[/#000000] the lure a bit. The [#000000]kokanee[/#000000] came swimming right over and were there most of the time for an hour. I tossed back a dozen or so and kept enough to fill my limit. It was interesting to watch them follow the lure 10 to 15' up from the school as was I was [#000000]jigging and reeling[/#000000]. Then see how they reacted depending upon what I did. Most were between 25 and 35'. It is a lot easyer to learn what works and experiment when they are around than what doesn't when they are no where to be found. They were 12" give or take 1/2".
