So after seeing that today was going to be a nice break in the weather, I called Grayson to see if he would like to hit the lake with me since I took a much needed day off. He obliged and we met up this morning and headed to HBSP. Oh, what a day it was!!!

Dropped the boat in the water around 7:15 and made a short run to our first spot. Let me tell you, with all the water that dumped into the lake, there were some AWESOME new spots to fish today. All the conditions lined up just right today, and it paid off BIG time!

We got to the first stop and started chunking Spooks and Pop'rs and had several blowups right off the bat. We were working the edge of some new flooded timber, and GG decided to pick up a jig and pitch to the cover. 10 minutes later he has 3 or 4 keepers in the boat. Then I picked up a few more keepers on the Spook, which he followed with 2 more keepers on the jig. After 45 min or so we decided to run up river a bit and look for some new water. 2nd stop produced another keeper and our first slick, but the flow wasn't what we were expecting out on the main lake, so we ventured on up the river a ways. Got to our next stop which was a slough with docks completely submerged, and a LOT of flooded timber. Grayson took us as far back as we could go and it was ON! From 10:30-12:30, we magically found a 50 yd radius of thick buckbrush in about 18" of water and we got on another topwater bite. Cast after cast we were pulling keepers into the boat. I think we seriously caught every single fish in this area in about 2 hours. They were tearing up the Spook, so we kept on throwing it, and we kept on catching fish. Grayson hooked up with our best fish of the day on a T-rig, a solid fish pushing a little over 5lbs. By 12:30, we had honestly put 30 fish in the boat, with all but about 3 being keepers.

After we left there, we went out in search of some more similar areas to continue this pattern we had found. Next stop, a few more keepers. Next stop, a few more keepers again. We did this ALL day and never stopped catching fish. Grayson then boated our 2nd best fish of the day, a tad over 4lbs, also on the T-rig. Hopefully he will email the pics to me so I can post them

Started making our way back down river and made a few stops here and there. Another keeper, followed by another, and another. No matter where we went or what we threw, we were both putting nothing but keepers in the boat. Finally fished our way back down to HBSP around 5:15 and decided to call it a day....and an AWESOME day at that!! Hated to leave since we were doing so well, but I was beat and ready for a shower and some grub!

All in all, although I did lose count once or twice, we put roughly 50-53 fish in the boat in 10 hrs on the water today, WITH ALL BUT 4 BEING KEEPERS!! I kid you not, we only caught 4 slicks all day, one of which was a 9" Spot that looked like she had swallowed a grapefruit! MAN WHAT A DAY! One of, if not THE BEST day I have ever had on the water. Our best 5 pushed 18-19lbs or so, with our 2 best from Grayson at 5+ and 4+. They weight wasn't outrageous today, but the shear number of keepers was! Everywhere we went, and everything we threw, we caught fish. It was 2.5lber after 2.5lber with a 3-3.5lber about every 3rd or 4th fish. We caught fish on Spooks, Spit'n Image, Pop'rs, Spinnerbaits, Traps, Jigs, T-rigs, Lizards, Worms, Beavers, C-rigs....It was just one of those days where everything worked! emoToast

Cloudy in the a.m. and mostly sunny for the majority of the afternoon. Water temps were 67 at blastoff and about 72 when we pulled out. Water was actually much clearer than expected after all of the rains. All fish caught in less than 8 ft of water, with 90% of that coming from 3 ft or less. Our best spot was only about 18" deep with thick cover all around.

A BIG thanks to Grayson for giving me a ride today and showing me how it's done! After a day like today I should have probably tipped him a nice little chunk of cash! And another HUGE thanks to Coach Garrett (wormbass) for letting us take the Skeeter!! Man, I get spoiled in that thing! What a ride!!! emoWorthy

Oh what a day!!! emoAngler :emoticon:logo
