Powell Report 5/7 - 5/11
#1
Hit Powell on Thursday evening, came back on Monday. Launched out of Hite and headed down to Good Hope. Water was absolutely muddy all the way down to the bay, and good portions of Good Hope were very muddy as well. In fact, there was mud all the way down to the floating restroom at the entrance. The rest of the bay was relatively stained, even in the back of most of the coves.

The water came up a good foot while I was there, and it's really cranking down the river now.

Fishing wasn't red hot, but it was good for Smallies. They seemed to favor dark colors in the plastics & jigs, and were pretty thick on brushy points and coves facing the breeze. Also caught a load of catfish and bluegill from camp. They were everywhere, and all very nice and fat.

Couldn't find a striper to save myself. I was all over that bay & associated canyons & coves, and just couldn't find them. Trolled, jigged, used bait, chummed, etc. Talked to a few other fisherman and they reported the same type of success...none. They did report catching some nice shad while trolling though, much to their surprise. Did catch a few LMB up around Scorup Canyon.

Virtually every cove is filled with flooded brush...never seen anything like that at Powell before. Great habitat.

The Hite ramp was in great shape, no issues launching at all. Depth finder read about 8 feet at the end of the floating dock. Didn't find any sand bars on the way out of there, and the debris wasn't too bad for the most part, you just have to pay attention.

In case anyone is interested, from what I can tell Blue Notch road is in great shape, judging by the types of vehicles I saw parked on the shore. Even saw a few family cars and mini vans.

I'm heading back at the end of the month and can't wait.
