If the weakness is in the pull direction and not inward, metal shelf "L" brackets might be bolted at the corner to reinforce. Or a threaded rod could be bolted and secured across the PVC corner to form a triangle.. Wouldn't be beautiful though....
Working with other materials than PVC is more time consuming because the wide variety of fittings for corners and angles is less. Except maybe standard pipe which is very heavy. I have seen quite a few fittings for copper, but don't have any experience whether it would be stronger or not. Copper tube is soft and heavy. There is an outfit that sells aluminum fittings comparable to PVC on the web. Sorry, don't have address on this computer, but a google search will turn them up. They make white water raft frames and other things by fitting together like you have done with PVC.

[#0000ff]Yes, I do pull my tube...by attaching either a PVC handle or a short length of nylon rope to the nylon web loop at the tip of the V. For long hikes, it is more comfortable to use the rope and to make a two loop shoulder harness. Better than walking half twisted and having to keep changing hands.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]In the attached pic you can see the 3' PVC handle with a swivel grip. It has a T on the end that just pushes into both sides of the loop at the front of the tube.[/#0000ff][/quote]
