Here's something you MIGHT want to try...I got some of that 200#(?) test cord, and tied a nut off of a box car from the railroad (must be at LEAST 5-6 lbs +/-) to the cord and I use it for an anchor. It don't hold you ALL the time but for the most part is SLOWS the drift alot!! It all rolls up on the nut and is quite handily stored in my front pouch. If I get tired or want to move up wind I just barely clear it off the bottom, paddle a ways, and let it down again. For me it works like a charm. My friend tried to one up me and used one of his downrigger balls, and that seemed to work good, until it got hung and he lost a $20 ball!! It's amazing how well a 5-6lb weight will hold a float tube in place, and for some reason I have NEVER lost my NUT!! No pun intended!
I have used it in wind that I should have given up and headed in...but stayed, caught fish, and for the most part waited out the wind....EXCEPT for that one time....and I did have to walk a good mile or two!
