Trophy, I grew up with the Snake River as a back yard. All I had was my Grandpa's Bamboo fly rod. Old, cheap and heavy. I think I used regular mono and a hook with a worm.
Many years later, I was given a fly rod, line and flies and told this is what you get for the day. No worm, or spinning outfit.
I caught more fish than I had ever caught. AND, I was able to catch them on top....KEWL!!
It was at that point, I decided, I am a Fly Fisher. I have never touched a spinning outfit, bait, plastics, lures since.
If I can't catch it on a fly rod, I ain't gonna catch it.
It has given me some great challenges and satisfaction beyond compare.
I don't eat the fish, but I know, I would never starve if it came down to it.
Fly Fishing can be pricie, but so does lures and some spinning gear. Easier to focus on ONE style and master it "TO ME" and "I" have never regretted it.
Like the other post...YARN for gawd sakes! How easy is that.
