Cold water sub-surface fly line.

All of the clear line freezes. You are basically fishing an INTERMEDIATE.
Cortland Clear Camo has been about the best out there. It isn't as subjective to the cold and it doesn't get noodlie in the heat.
I had the ORVIS clear and it was the same as you described.
If you try a PVC coated TYPE I you might have better luck.

There is a new line on the market however. I will do some checking and see if I can find it.
Heard some great things about it.
