I called Fish and Game today. A single treble hook with barbs pinched will qualify as a single barbless hook. The boise office was not sure so they transfered me to a regional office.
Anyways I quized some people at work and many did not realize the fine print of No bait rule.
I agree with FG about landing many non-keepers in trophy waters and the safety of these fish kept in mind by all of us when fishing.
I landed a 21" keeper this weekend and what a beautiful fish. I quickly put him back in the water, hopefully for others to enjoy...
the spinners I use are the blue fox spinners with a single hook option when you buy it. My rapala has trebles removed and a single hook..LOL I miss plenty but way fun to feel them hit the lure regardless. My spoons also have single hooks and I removed trebles too.
My limited experience has been that trebles usually remove quicker then a single hook down the throat of a fish. My treble catch tend to hook out on the mouth not inside.. but still learning....One fish on gem lake did not swim away when a hook was lodged way deep in throat. this was small spoon single hook. Must have caught the spoon when I stalled on my retreive.
