OK... I took the pictures last night, but just didn't get the chance to post 'em until now. Three pictures attached...
The first picture shows the handle-to-reel seat relationship. The second picture shows what it says on the rod-blank, just above the handle. And the third picture shows the relative size (to a penney) of the first rod eye.
(To TD... unlike your crappie-rod, my rod has (only) a total of ten eyes.)
I "handled" the rod like I was casting... and there just isn't enough "butt" to hold and cast as you would with a spincast reel. However, if you flip the rod and grasp it like you would a spinning (or underspin as in the TD picture), I think it would at least be workable.
As for distance, I could see how the ten eyes could limit the casting distance! (Hadn't thought of that...)
Still underspin reels are relatively inexpensive... so if I can't sell the rod locally, I might just get one and try it out....
