Well I've had the setup out on Causey a couple of times now, and it really works great! I made one modification, I shortened the transducer mount by 4 inches. It liked to drag on the bottom when I was in very shallow water. It took all of 10 minutes to make the modification, so no big deal.
The finder has really helped me target schools of fish up there. I've been using a Dipsy Diver to get the bait down to the fish. It has been a little challenging to figure out precise depths, as I use Spiderwire for the main line (good for not loosing Dipsy Diver), which is much thinner than the Luhr-Jensen tested 20lb mono. I also troll at 1-1.5 MPH, which is slower than the tested 2.5 MPH by Luhr-Jensen. But with a little more fishing time I think I can get line out/depth down much better. I've really been impressed with the Dipsy Diver, and it's ability to help me catch more fish. I've consistently outfished anglers in the same boat while using one. Last week I was out with an old retired Veteranarian, he kind of laughed at the diver when we started to fish, but as I was catching fish, and he wasn't, he asked where to pick one up at! Great little invention for those of you who cannot afford a down rigger.
Also I've finally gotten a rod holder built and rigged up for my toon. It is a 3 pole design, and I've got it set up so that the oars are still usable, while having the pole holder mounted on the side of the toon instead of the back. I'll post some pics on TubeDude's rod-rack review thread soon.
