For those of you considering fishing Bear Lake this coming "President's Day weekend":
The marina is open, but about 200 yards of ice remain on the outside of the marina. I saw one boat break through it on Monday, but since then no one has been out. There is about 50% ice cover on the lake. Right now there is some sheets of ice covering the rockpile area, but there is open water slightly further out. Sorry, but there is no "fishable" ice. You can launch boats on the east side at the 1st Point and Cisco Beach ramps. Fishing has been good to excellent for cutthroat and lake trout this week. Best bets are jigging with tubes/cisco or jigging spoons/cisco. If you don't have cisco, don't worry! Sucker or carp meat work good too. Try a variety of depths to find the fish.
I'll be out on Friday plying the waters in my boat. I'll be fishing off 1st or 2nd Points and if the wind gets rid of some ice, I might venture over to the rockpile. However, its been really calm and there is no forcast of wind, so I doubt things will change much. Right now fishing along the east side from Cisco Beach to the south end has been really good.
