I think that depends a lot on what you want to fish for? Are you thinking of ocean fishing, bass fishing or trout fishing? I know the Appalachians have some small trout streams. Check out the link http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ngto/mstream.html. I know many southeastern States have good tailwater (below dams) trout fishing but not sure what Georgia has. A good source of information is a local fly shop. I know Atlanta has an Orvis store and probable a couple others. You could go in and ask questions and get directions to where to fish and pick up some appropriate flies to get you started. You didn't mention if you know how to cast. If you don't find someone to spend an hour or 2 to get you started or consider taking a class.
