The Utah Stonefly Society has a depiction of an albino rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on their website where there should be a depiction of a California golden trout (Oncorhynchus aguabonita). If you will look closely at the sizes listed for the Utah record golden trout, they were 8 1/2 inches for catch and release, and 14 1/2 inches and 14 ounces for the catch and keep records. LordoftheFlies, and tacokid789 provided pictures of typical sized California golden trout (Oncorhynchus aguabonita).
I remember an article in the paper a few years back where a guy had "Golden trout" in a private pond that he had built. Several were in the 7 or 8 pound class. If they were California golden trout they would have been new records. They were albinos, but the aquaculture outfit that he bought them from called them "golden".
I guess if people wanna call 'em golden trout, that's their business. Call 'em white if you want. They're albino rainbow trout.
