You may have a hard time getting up to the lake depending on when you go in May, and if you have an atv or not. Most years the gate is not opened until memorial day weekend. Make sure you check the fish stalking report as well. They drain the lake every fall to collect the run off come spring. I believe there are some camping restrictions up there as well. I think you have to be a 1/2 mile away from the lake or something like that. I would check with the forest service.
