scofield chub problem
#35
RE " And moving the provo river is a horrible idea. I know, the priority is the sucker not those non- indigenous species. But hey I won't be fishing there when that lake becomes chuck full of suckers!"

I will be! Can't wait actually. And I won't be using a June sucker zooplankton pattern either. I think the best is yet to come at UL for sportfishing, but you guys have heard it all from me before so I will stop here.

W&B is right about bows and cutts being able to get along just fine without chubs and baitfish (better actually). However, the reality is that most of our lakes that have chub issues will never have them completely eliminated. Strawberry is the prime example. That means the management has to be styled to be able to utilize the chubs instead of try to fight them. The DWR is getting better at that, but a few realities are apparent.

1. Slot limits are here to stay. Great news for guys that like to fish for large trophy or near trophy fish, (like myself) bad news for the "harvest everything you catch" crowd.

2. The use of warmwater fish like smallies will continue to be used in appropriate lakes. Minersville, Otter Creek and Piute come to mind. As a guy that likes smallies, this is a good thing, others may disagree. Yes, that could also mean more STERILE tiger muskies being used.

3. In the unlikely event that the chubs become completely depleted in a coldwater cutt/bow fishery like Strawberry, it will not be a big deal, unlike a warmwater fishery like Jordanelle or a lake trout pond like Fish lake or the Gorge.

4. I am very excited to hit Scofield next fall. It was excellent last fall for nice tigers at all ranges of the slot, but more of them should be in the higher slot this fall and I think it will be good times. Sorry (to some of you) that it means that you can't go harvest 8 trout anymore.
