Thought I would drop in some info also. I have been hitting the Uintas every weekend for the past month. I've spent most of my time on the Bear River side of the mountain with lots of good fishing. The roadside lakes are always stocked and these fish are great for the kids (easy to catch on baits!). Pass, Butterfly, Moosehorn, etc. can each provide catch rates of 2-4 fish per hour. If you don't get them at one move on down the road, they are hitting some where.
Whitney Res. has been hit and miss, mostly because they have dumped almost 40 feet of water in a period of 3-4 weeks. Ouch! Typically when this happens there are a lot of hungry fish, easy to catch on spinners. I've also hiked into Ruth and Cutthroat Lake. Ruth has some nice brookies in it but it wasn't as quick, maybe when it cools down. Cutthroat is named for a reason, lots of 4-10 in cutts that don't see a whole lot of lures.
My best luck has been the streams and rivers. I mean its been awesome, and no one hits them. The Hayden, Stillwater, and East Fork all have good flows right now and these fish will drill dry flies all day long. You can catch brookies, bows, and cutts on dry flies like Parachute adams, Royal wulffs, humpies and coachmens, and of course caddis. Also try small Panther Martins, I like the black with gold blades. Its awesome up there and they have been getting rain almost everyday for the past couple of weeks. Escape the heat and catch a limit! Enjoy, Ryno
