Pistol Grip Rod Handles...
#1
Have only been a member of this forum for a relatively short time... but can't begin to thank everyone enough for all the tips that have made my float-tubing experience such a joy.

In my recent "pimping", I came up with an idea that I hope may be of benefit to those using pistol-grip type rods...

In most of the pimping photos on this site, I've noticed that most of the rod holders are 1" or maybe 1-1/4", that accommodate the newer styled, stick-type handles. However, since I am usually fishing farm ponds and the like (most have standing timber), I use shorter rods (5'6" to 6') to reduce the "over-head" rods-to-branches contact (also makes it easier to reach the rod-ends to untangle lines from eyes/tips). Most of these rods have pistol-grip styled grips (picture 1).

To accommodate these larger grips, I came up with the following solution:

1" PVC to a 1"-to-2" bushing adapter, to a 2" coupling, to a section of 2" PVC (picture 2). I measured the length of the grip and a 6" length of the 2" PVC works for MY rods.

I found an additional benefit to this set-up yesterday while fishing... not only does the 2" piece accommodate the pistol-grip rods AND my "stick-type" grips... but the 1" hole in the center (from the 1" adapter bushing hole - picture 3) securely holds all of my 1" "stick-type" grips!

This isn't a big-time mod like most have offered here, but hope that I can give a little back to the forum and help the next guy that comes along... [Smile]
