Minimum Size battery for E/Motor
#22

[quote TubeDude]"Here is something interesting. Heat (or above 77 °) shortens the life of that battery:"

Yes, but expiration dates (shelf life) usually come in to play before temperature effects in troll motor use. This is because the average troll motor battery is only used maybe 5 holidays per year in a bass boat. Most members on this list would use batteries a lot more, probably. Battery PERFORMANCE is much better at warm, not hot, temperatures even if the life might be a little shorter. Your battery does last longer at cold temperatures but the CAPACITY (distance) and VOLTAGE (speed) will be lousy and maybe insufficient. Thats one reason ice truckers often use two batteries on their rigs...

[cool][#0000ff]Definitely in agreement on that one. While I lived in Arizona I got used to having to replace car batteries almost every year. Didn't matter if they were guaranteed for 5 years...several months of 100 degree plus days and those batteries were toast.

Yes, that makes sense because a car battery is discharged maybe a thousand times per year instead of 5 in a bass boat troll motor. Also, temperatures UNDER the hood of a car where the battery is located are MUCH higher than the outside air temperature of 100 degrees- maybe 200 degrees.

You could get a warranty replacement but that was little consolation when you were down some long desert road, out of cell phone service, with a dead battery. I had to hike several miles in 108 degree heat one time to get someone to drive me back and jump start my vehicle...where TubeBabe was waiting and fretting among the rattlesnakes.[/#0000ff]
