I have used Mirage Florocarbon tippet for about 5 years now. It is what I use exclusively for the last 4 - 5 feet of my tippet material. Whether using dries or nymphs. Even when chucking heavy streamers at Steelhead or Salmon, I tie off with Mirage.
I can see your point about fish being shadow shy etc. for surface flies, but under water is where the Mirage tippets absolutely excell. I fish for Steelhead with straight 15 or 20 lb IGFA Mirage tippet material. In order to get the same performance and strike #'s with other mono tippets I have to go down to 3x tippet. So lets see it is either 10 lb strenght, or 15 lb?? It is worth the extra cost to use the Mirage material!
