Maybe an inside liner would help with the locust thorns. Liner doesn't have to be completely surrounding the bladders. If you are getting punctures only in certain areas, those can be reinforced, to keep the weight down. Some kind of flexible plastic material could be tack glued on the inside or the pontoon fabric. I like the plastic used for thin 3 ring binder notebooks for puncture resistance and flexibility.
