Sure, I see what you're saying. Like you said, there are a lot of factors that affect the fish, short growing season, draw downs, etc. We can't control these factors, but we can help control the population through selective harvest. That will be one thing in favor of growing larger bass. I'm not advocating keeping larger bass. I never do. I only keep fish under 12". They taste better and have fewer contaminants anyway. True, if you keep a 1lb fish, it will never reach 2lbs. However, there just isn't enough food for every single fish in there to reach 2lbs, let alone larger than that. That skinny fish is old, I agree. That other fish reached 19" at a much younger age from the look of it. I think it managed that because it had more food.
