I personally do not believe that extending the season a month will do anything to the fishery. It is a touchy subject and you can definitely see both sides. Like was mentioned before "if it ain't broke don't fix it", Henrys is definitely not broke! But, at the same time, the ice season does kind of "even the playing field". Which allows anglers who can't normally fish Henrys effectively, a shot at those nice fish. Ice fishing also provides a great time to fish with the non-fisher people in your family or with friends.
Also, consider the time of year when hooking mortality (fly, bait,lure, etc) is at its highest....... I do NOT believe that it is during the ice season. You can say what you will, but I think fishing Henrys in the hot summer months of late July, August, and early September are much more harmful to the overall fishery then ice fishing.
I know that Damon knows what he is doing and would not put the overall health of the lake in jeopardy. A lot of things are all about the $ these days, but I am just going to trust that the biologists know what they are doing.
