Henry's Lake F&G Proposal
#44
Last year I went to HL for a couple of days on the first and second day of the season. I saw RAMPANT poaching going on the whole time I was there. I saw one Hispanic pregnant woman catch and keep well over 10 fish in the two hours before dark I was there, and they were cooking them almost as fast as she was catching them. I saw one guy cutting up fish into fillets and throwing the carcasses back into the water. I saw kids by an outhouse where a small stream came in or a small bay that were throwing rocks at the spawning fish, then the people fishing off the docks WOW that was crazy. I wrote about this last year and turned it in. Damon said the same thing I read here. Fish die of old age there and it was ok. People are running canning operations on the lake. They are running butcher shops on the lake. I was there right at ice out and had never seen such a sight. I am thinking I won’t ever see that again. I will never go back to Henrys on the opener ever again. I don’t care how big the fish are the whole thing disappointed me.
I told Damon then I thought that a June 1st opener would be a LOT better for the fish, and maybe keep down the poaching. That is when he said they die of old age and the lake had plenty of fish.
I am not super wild about trout fishing and for the most part with, but those fish seem kind of special. The lake seems kind of special. It is too bad that the F&G and most of the people there on opening day treat it like a used piece of toilet paper. The ugliness of the people there is the big problem. Ron
