He nailed it, too. The only brook trout is the 1 fish pointing a different direction in the originally posted picture (the bottom fish in the picture below). All others are splake.
The blue halos threw a few people off. Typically, splake don't get the blue halos, but at this lake they do. So, we have to look at other characteristics. Like tails.
Brook trout have a very square tail. In this next picture (same group of fish, different angle) you can see the brook trout tail next to the splake. There is a significant difference. The splake have a definite fork, although not near as extreme of a fork as a lake trout.

You can also see that the lower jaw and belly have much more black, and the back of the brook trout is much "wormier" than the splake.
