It's not the cold but the high and low pressure of the fronts. Fish tend to bite on the high pressure fronts.
Like before a storm the fishing is really good.
For shallow waters this affects fish much more than a deep water lake where conditions like temp and pressures are constant at lower levels.

Thread them on a straight small shank hook with a small splitshot weight. Cast and slow real and WHAM!
