I fried some fish the other day using mostly corn flour with a little flour, corn meal and spices, then dipped them dipped it in a couple beaten eggs with about a table spoon of milk, then I rolled it in the mix. I really liked the taste, but I'm still not very good at frying. I might tried to put too much on each piece, causing some of the mixture to fall off the fish and subsequently burn, also I let the oil get too hot which didn't help. Getting the oil to temperature and maintaining that temperature is key, when using a small pan. Adding too much fish will cool it down, too cool and fish will be pale and oily, and of course, too hot will burn the food and cause smoke.
Also, my last few trips on the ice were all OK. Except one incident that I won't recall. Tried to get a crappie, no luck, did find a good shallow water perch area. Tried a new spot that I've been meaning to get to, rip rap corner, not bad, no big ones. I wasn't sure the ice would be stable since the last few days have been warm, today was near record highs for Colorado. The ice was bare of snow and smooth, 5 1/2 inches, as the day progressed it got slushy, still less than an inch, made it easier to walk on.
I only had one bobber, so I walked to shore and picked out a nice dry stick, cut a notch and had a couple within a minute , though I didn't get any fish hooked while using them, I have to blame the fish for that.
Had three gulls real interested in me, finally had to throw them a couple dead minnows. Left for other side with unusually bad luck, didn't stay for sunset.
How's the weather up there Dave?
