White bass at Deer Creek
#37
No, rainbows are not native to Utah. But trout are. There are NO species of sunfish, perch, bass, walleye, muskie, pike, or shad that are native to Utah. The majority of waters in the state are well suited for trout. Regardless of which species. There are a myriad of issues beyond whether they are native to the area that make some of the other species harder to stock, maintain, or control. Like water levels in Yuba.

It kinda depends on how successful the white bass spawn is at Deer Creek. There may already be several thousand of them in there. Or maybe someone caught the only dozen or so that the "bucket bozos" planted. Because there are already lots of walleyes, bass, perch, and a few trout big enough to eat them, there may not be too many of them making it from fry to adult. Time will tell.

Anything that was native to a stream that is dammed to create a reservoir is native to the reservoir. The fact that the reservoir is man made doesn't mean that the fish in the stream are not native to every bit of water in the drainage, including the impoundments.
