I also grew up on lake lowell ave,this was in the 70s,
I used to ride my bike out there all the time, we used to catch some really nice Crappies mostly out at Gotts point.
Not sure if they still do it but some group used to sink old tires blocks and just about anything else that would sink out off the point it made some pretty good structure and we used to do really well there, also when the water is up my dad and i would would drift along all the Olive trees around the point and catch some big uns just jigging Doll flies.
We used to catch some pretty big Catfish right where the New york canal flows in, talked to an old buddy a couple of years ago and he claimed he was catching cats up to 20 pounds there but could only catch em at night.
Man that place has sure changed, i can't believe all the gates and restrictions around that lake now.
