Since my brother had his first leave from the Army after his tour in Afghanistan, decided to take the day off and take him fishing. Was supposed to be a nice sunny day so I though the catfish would be active. Started out the morning cold and cloudy with only a few mud cats to show for our efforts. After lunch though, we were able to get the boat working so we could try a few spots that I couldn't get to in the morning due to the muddiness of the roads. First place we stopped was a bust, but within a half hour of being at our second stop, my brother got a bit that at first we thought was just a snag, because when he pulled on the line, it didn't move. When the fish on the other end woke up and realized that it was hooked, he was in for a pretty good fight. Managed to boat the thing after a few minutes of coaxing, and it was the biggest catfish I've seen this year. Weighed in at 10lbs, 4 oz, and to my knowledge, the biggest fish he has ever caught.
On another note, the water is really high in Cutler, as I'm sure it is in most places, so we were able to get our boat into just about anywhere we wanted to. The water was also somewhat cold, couldn't get my fishfinder to give us a temperature, but with the warm spell that we're supposed to be having for the rest of the week, I only expect the fishing to get better.
