That's what I thought, a red devil. They are evil in a tank.
PaulPro, good work, yes it's a shortbill, or shortnose spearfish. I didn't rehook it though. That's not possible with larger fish- maybe for bass and small dorado, etc but I can't imagine how one would manage to keep control of a fish that big- even if it is the smallest billfish, it's going about 50 pounds- without it squirming away. I was in the water the whole time and the fish never came out so it's me snorkeling with a lively hooked up fish.
