I fished Huntington creek last weekend, so I thought I would offer an update. The river is clear and very fishable from electric lake to at least the forks. Below the forks it looked to be running a bit high. I could tell that very recently the water was 1-2 feet higher than it is now. I haven't fished here in a few years, but it looked like several beaver dams were washed out with the recent high water.
The fishing was great. When we first arrived to our camp spot it was already getting late, but I couldn't resist a quick trip to the river. I arrived at the river in fading light to see fish rising all over the place. I quickly tied on a small PMD dry and was rewarded with a nice little brown right away. Then it was getting difficult to see my little dry, but they were still rising, so I decided to see if they were into terrestrials. I tied on a huge beetle that I could actually see. I found a taker on my second cast!
The next day I fished a San Juan worm below my beetle (makes a great indicator). I caught about a dozen or so fish on the San Juan with no more takers on the beetle. I later tried a rainbow warrior and also had good luck. I caught one brown that was about 14-15", which in my experience is pretty good for that creek.
I hadn't fly fished in about a year (mostly I've been drowning worms with my 3 year old daughter), and hadn't been to Huntington creek in about two years. That is where I learned to fly fish, so I was really nice to get back to my old stomping grounds. It was even better to find out that I still know how to catch a fish or two.
