Pyramid is better in the spring for sure but it can be good from shore any time of the year. We used to go the on the south shore pretty much the closest areas nearest Sparks. There is lots of info on the lake out there and the little store just inside the Reservation where you get your permit has plenty of info and great pics of shore and boat catches. It is one of the better lakes out west for shore fishing for certain.
The Carson River can be good also.
