drumking, Riverpark, white bass and drum, 15 Feb, 2012, Labman

I called Norman last night to see if he was going fishing and he said that he wanted to, so I begged to go with him. I told him that I wanted to go to the Riverpark and fish for bluegills and he agreed. He told me to bring a bass rod just in case. I was going to do that anyway.

We started off fishing for the gills and Norman got the skunk off the boat right away with a nice spotted bass. Then the DK struck with a shellcracker. Norman countered with a small drum. I tried to come back with a nice bluegill that flopped off as I was raising it up. It would have counted by MadBomber rules. emoBigSmile

The fish just quit biting, so we decided to run all the way up to the dam and see if the gills were doing anything up there. Nothing doing. So, we changed gears and started trying to catch bass. I don't think that we had a bite above the RR trestle. So, Norman suggested that we go fish rip-rap banks. MadBomber would be proud of us.

Let me tell you something. Norman tried his best to wrestle my title away from me. He hooked and landed 7 of my pet Drum while I was watching. I did manage to land a couple of spots, and then got on a white bass kick. I landed 6 of those and they were all very good sized whites. The biggest was measured at 16.75 inches and really thick. Then I topped off my day by catching a 14.0 lb Drum. Set the hook on that critter and it took off downstream like Snyder's pup. My 8 lb test fluorocarbon line held its own and although the reel was singing a beautiful tune, we followed it in the current until it gave up. Norman did a great job of netting it and taking my pic with it. I almost couldn't hold it up as by this time my shoulders were killing me. emoBang

We hit a couple more spots where I landed the last 2 white bass and we called it a day. While we were fishing the last place, we heard a bass boat roaring up river and it got about even with us, although they were on the other side of the river from us, and the engine on that boat just gave up the ghost. It sounded awful but they were able to idle on up stream and they were gone by the time that we got to the ramp. I guess that they will be shelling out some hard earned dollars soon. I just hope that it wasn't a CFFer.

Thank you for taking me fishing today, Norman. We released all fish and Norman has most of the pics. I only took a pic of the first fish. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
