This is an old post - not sure how I got here, but an interesting read.
There was a recent carp-fly swap (some of ya'll were "in" on it!). I see cpierce posted the links to the carp fillet videos. I've talked to numbers of folks who have eaten them, and I might just have to throw some in the smoker.
I don't like the dumpster idea, because no-one's going to fund a daily pickup, and then it'll just stink.
Some of our lakes have cleaning stations with a grinder - are the carp too big and fat to fit?
I've fished by some of the farm-steads along the Bear/Cutler - and in speaking with the farmers - they ask for carp NOT to be tossed up on the bank, and can't say I blame them.
So what's wrong with puncturing the airsack, putting them out, and putting them down? They are a staple food source in most all the waters they prosper in. I believe that's a common practice with bow-fishers, but you want them to sink to the bottom, not just float the surface.
I've filleted several for cat-fishin-strips. Plus got into a mess of carplings recently. You can be darn-tootin' they are prolific! This little irrigation puddle was swarming with carp minnows. Unreal! And I can be certain there are pockets of minnow schools ALL over just like it!
This was three dips of the cast net, and a cooler FULL. And I could have had 20 coolers and there would have still been a swarm of minnows - quite certain! Maybe if I had a big battery and could electroshock them!
