He is right,My dad went fly fishing and only caught one little perch, and he has had 40 fish days on the fly,he said he tried everything.
If your going up and want to try to catch splake, catch a few perch on the weed line with a small 1/16 oz jig and worm, just let it down vertical on the weed line, you can see where they end, start at the shore and go out 50ft off shore, and they will cut of access to the main lake if you dont launch where there is a clearing thru them.
Well catch some perch, put on a 1/8 to 1/2oz. jig head with white 3" tube or grub, put a nice chunk of perch meat on there but not to big,and drop down to the bottom, about 30ft outside the weed line, lift your rod tip then drop it slow with a semi tight line, try to let it drop naturally though,if it stops before you think it reachs the bottom set the hook.switch up the jiging style though you never know what the fish want on different days, put in some time and i'm sure you will catch some, just a heads up,its deep on the north end,it steps off fast, the weed edge over there sits in about 25ft,and drops off fast, you can be in 50 feet of water 30ft from the weed line,so it takes a little bit of time to get to the bottom,so the heavier jig helps get ya to the fish zone faster, but also limits the action of the jig.
Hope you catch some,.
water temp was 55 on friday and 53 on sunday,so it cooling off fast.dress warm and be safe.
