Any time you have more than one line out there is a chance of tangle.
I put a loop in the bend and attach it directly to the fly line via loop to loop. Nothing wrong with tying off the bend, people do catch fish that way.
I prefer two separate actions for two different flies. Davy Wotton, I think he has a video.
That is also why so many use tags for the second fly as well. Or I tie off the eye of the lead hook.
I can get two personalities of two different flies, plus able to cover two different columns of water like two different lines.
I am going to try something different this year. I bought some small ant shaped swivels I am experimenting with. I really haven't had much problem with twisting while casting, but it can happen specially in wind. But I am thinking while stripping it through the water, that swivel is adding a new dimension to it.
