report: Webe 4/12
#1
So I took a friend who is new to fly fishing out to the Webe today-

I've been fishing this stretch for about 4 years and never have I seen 3 hours of BWO hatch AND fish rising to them the entire time. The conditions were pretty good to say the least. Almost too good. When I did switch over to a dry I couldn't pick my fly out of all the real bugs floating down with it....

I'd tied up a bunch of different bugs for the trip, and caught fish on all but ONE- a red bodied WD-40 with an UV ice dubbing "head"---they didn't want it, so I have a dozen for sale.

I got frustrated at the lack of love the dries/emergers so I tied on a nice little streamer thinking that I MAY be able to distract them from a meal of "popcorn" with a steak...and it worked--kinda--i got hit a lot, but 90% were short strikes or head slaps. But I was able to land 3 on the streamer, one going right at 20".

My buddy was able to land a lot of fish- for his 2nd time fly fishing. i dont know how many browns he got, or whities, but he also got a cutthroat-

I take a lot of pride in being able to get a newbie on fish, and I still got plenty of fishing in myself, once he got his basic cast down. What a great day!!!
