Your welcome, and I didn't even get into finding and targeting catfish in deep water using sonar[] .
I have a lot of people contact me about catfishing in PM's. I try to help out when I can. One guy contacted me from out of state about how to drift for cats. I asked him to send me the location on google earth. I looked over the river with the images and gave him my recommendation. He scored big on the spots I told him where I would fish. I enjoyed that one a bunch.
I would not be where I am now with catfishing if it were not for tubedude. He didn't tell me where to go, he told me what I was doing wrong. He also sold me his book and that helped too. After I understood what I needed to do I did the research and got into the water. I spent the money on gas and worked hard.
Smartweed has been a huge help for me with river knowledge. Before I took my 30+ mile trip down the river I had several discussions about what to expect on the river. Mostly for safety. When it comes to river safety I am free with that knowledge. If I know something I will tell if someone asks.
I try to help with fishing info, but if I don't know that person I give general info. One method of asking info is to have my own research done on a section of river or lake before I ask the question. The when I ask I say something like " Dear catfisherguy I am thinking about floating the river from Homedale to The Idaho border. Can you tell me if it would be safe? IS there anything I should look out for? And if you don't mind what are the populations of fish in that area?" That is how I have asked for help. Any help I have ever been given is kept to only me. That person didn't tell me and all the rest of Al Gores internet. Like I said if someone asks I help, If I know someone pretty good I am more generous.
As you know not all people go fishing and use restraint when it comes to harvest. I have witnessed some over harvest of epic per portions. To be honest I don't want the areas I fish to be over harvested because I said something to the wrong person. Ron
