A buddy and I come to Utah twice a year to fish the Provo, Strawberry, Pinnacles etc. Yes, we are out of staters, but we pay for the non resident license and hire a guide.
This week on the middle Provo we had a strange encounter. While fishing a nice hole on the Middle Provo, with a guide, another fisherman, on the other side of the river walked up and threw his line in the same spot I was fishing. The seam couldn't have been 3 feet across, he said there was no way I could get a good drift on it anyway. We couldn't have been 15 feet apart! After a few words back and forth between myself, the guide and the interloper, he told us to go back to California and that the river wasn't for out of staters. I have never seen such lack of manners or class on a stream. Every fly fisherman I have ever met has been kind, friendly, and generous with info.
The people of Utah are extremely nice people, especially the fy fishermen. Being from the East Coast, I know what rude is! Maybe this guy was from the out of state. I hope none of you run into him.
