Fished Nickajack this past saturday out of Marion County Park. What a pretty lake the Jack is! Have to be honest, i knew Nickajack had grass but Wow-didn't realize it had that much, had to adjust my approach. It reminded me of fishing water like the Potomac River & The James River in Virginia. After i adjusted to that much grass finally caught a few fish with swim jigs and Red Eye shad as well as using one of my Old grass tricks with a Creeme Scoundrel floating worm. Water temps were 82-84 just about everywhere and the water was a pretty green color, nice stain. Storm chased us off the water at about 2:00 but i have to figure out how to catch more fish early because i have a club tourny there this saturday. We ran out of Marion County Park and headed right on the River and stayed on the outside grass edge, nothing there but saw a lot of fish chasing bait, couldn't even get up to the docks on the left side because of so much grass. We ran back to the barge area on the right heading back to the Park and caught fish, the area on the right where it looks like they tie off Barges, across from a Marina/boat sales place. I am thinking this area will give up a few fish but i am also thinking i need to fish the river ledges where the grass comes out to the drop. Any advice from anglers who fish the Nick on a regular basis would be greatly appreciated-help an OL' Veteran out...what is the best way to fish the river ledges on the Jack in July? Thanks-Mo
