Chris, It would be hard to imagine there would be a much better place for a flyfisherman to have a free day than Butte. The obvious choices are the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Madison or Jefferson and some lesser known jewells like the Ruby and the Wise. I would pass on the Clark Fork. There is tons of info on these rivers on the intraweb but what I would probably do is spend a few bucks in a fly shop in Twin Bridges and decide where to go from there depending on their advice. All of these rivers are within an hour of Butte and are well worth a $25 license, $50 in gas and whatever you spend in the fly shop. While in Butte, you should check out the Pekin Noodle Parlor, a really cool 100 year old chinese restaurant in the historic district and/or Lydia's, an old school Italian restaurant on the main drag. Good luck.
