Seriously good stuff. It's the same main ingredient in the frogs fanny and other similar floatants.
I combine some of the fused silica with a couple of the little desiccant packets (the oxygen absorbers) that come in various items such as clothing or things of that nature. Open the packets and empty the beads into a container with the fused silica. When your fly is water-logged, blow off the excess water, stick it in your container (still attached to the leader) and give it a good shake. Your fly will come out coated in white, but it'll fade after a few casts. And your fly will have never floated higher. Give it a try.
